New Earth – A Photographic Journey Of The Geldingadalir Eruption” is a uniquely personal, photography- and experience-focused book covering the recent volcanic eruption in Geldingadalir from the first until the last day it was active.

Description

What is New Earth about?

When the eruption of Fagradalsfjall started on March 19th 2021, I was there with my camera to experience and capture this volcanic event from a front row seat. It was the beginning of a genuine photographic journey which exceeded all my expectations. In this book, I share my collection of images taken from day one until the very last day of the eruption. The photographs are strengthened by sharing my story my experiences whilst photographing the eruption.

The book combines my photography of the eruption with interesting stories on how those photographs came to be. I also share how this volcanic event left a big impact on me personally and how my experience started evolving together with the eruption.

What people are saying

This has to be the ‘go to’ book on a crazy last 9 months in an even crazier country. The photography is incredible but the words that go with it is where Jeroen has taken it to the next level.” – Jacob

It is excellent how it captures the feelings, moments and thoughts that also I had during the time at the volcano.” – Glacionaut

I kept saying “wow” throughout! A fantastic book for anyone who visited Geldingadalir, wanted to but couldn’t, or anyone with a passion for volcanoes who’d appreciate witnessing the story of this incredible eruption. Magical!” – Lesley

Highly recommended from someone who has had the chance to experience over 15 volcano eruptions and owns 45 books about volcanoes, so I can safely say that I can distinguish the wheat from the chaff.” – John

Received our copy of New Earth this week. Loving all the photos. Having had the opportunity to see the volcano in Sept. 2021, your book holds a special place in our memories. Thank you for sharing your photography.

This Book is a true Masterpiece. The Pictures combined with the beautiful Stories around them, in which Jeroen described his Experiences with the Eruption, invites you to dream away and let you feel like you’re right there at the Volcano. It’s amazing to read and look at. Thank you so much for this fantastic Creation, Jeroen, and for sharing it with us.

  3. Paul Irving

Highly recommended. I gave one to my lovely wife for a Christmas present – all the way from Iceland to Canberra, Australia. She loves geology, volcanoes and Iceland. Great photos, with very clear and informative text. A highly educational tome! So highly recommended!

This has to be the ‘go to’ book on a crazy last 9 months in an even crazier country. The photography is incredible but the words that go with it is where Jeroen has taken it to the next level. Well done Jeroen and thank you for everything!

  5. Stephen McGill

Wow – what a fantastic book. The photos of the volcano are simply epic. And l love the story woven around them as the Volcano evolves. Well done on this awesome work. I’ve seen lava up close myself, first in Hawaii, and then with this Icelandic volcano. The book really captures the experience of what it’s like to see, hear, feel and taste the raw force of nature. Highly Recommended

  6. YVES TANZILLI

Thanks to you Jeroen for letting me discover this wonderful book with incredible photos.
The immersion is total and what a joy to see this eruption again that I had the chance to see in real life. Thank you again for this sublime book.

  7. Ásgeir Ingvarsson

I think that the narrative is a good framing device for the photos to give them a bit of context. That way I don’t feel like I’m just browsing through someone’s photo album but instead I feel like I’m along for the ride.
