## Photo Workshops & Photo Tours in Winter

Join [Jeroen](https://jvn.photo/about/) for a series of immersive **winter photography workshops** in **[Iceland](https://jvn.photo/photo-workshops/iceland/) and [Greenland](https://jvn.photo/photo-workshops/greenland/)**, where the Arctic winter transforms the landscape into something truly otherworldly. Designed around the best seasonal conditions, these workshops focus on dramatic light, snow-covered terrain, powerful weather, and the return of the [northern lights](https://jvn.photo/ultimate-guide-to-chasing-photographing-northern-southern-lights/). From frozen waterfalls and volcanic winter scenery in [Iceland](https://jvn.photo/gallery/iceland/) to [Greenland](https://jvn.photo/gallery/greenland/)’s remote fjords, icebergs, and Arctic [wildlife](https://jvn.photo/gallery/bird-wildlife/), each photo workshop blends exploration, creative growth, and hands-on field instruction. Whether your passion is [landscape](https://jvn.photo/photo-workshops/nature-landscape/), [drone](https://jvn.photo/photo-workshops/drone/), or [wildlife](https://jvn.photo/photo-workshops/wildlife-bird/) photography, these winter photo workshops offer expert guidance and real-world shooting opportunities in some of the North Atlantic’s most striking cold-season environments.

For several years, Jeroen has been organising photography workshops to help participants improve their landscape photography skills. ## Frequently Asked Questions

Below are a few of the most commonly asked questions people have before considering to join a photo workshop.

### Which Winter Workshops Run, and Where?

Three at the moment, and all three are in Iceland. Arctic Foxes in Winter runs 19 to 26 February 2027 in Hornstrandir. Winter in Iceland is a nine-day small-group week from 4 to 12 March 2027. Iceland in Winter with Mads Peter Iversen runs 15 to 23 November 2026. Greenland winter trips appear when a voyage is scheduled rather than every year, so check the Greenland page or the waitlist for those.

### Will We See the Northern Lights?

Nobody can promise the aurora, and anyone who does is selling you something. What these trips do is put you in Iceland during the season, away from town lights, with someone watching the forecast and willing to move the plan when the sky opens up. If we’re lucky, you get a night you’ll remember for years. If the cloud sits in, the days are still full of frozen waterfalls, black beaches, ice and winter light.

### Do the Winter Trips Include an Ice Cave?

Two of them do. Both Winter in Iceland in March 2027 and Iceland in Winter in November 2026 include a visit to an ice cave in the Vatnajökull area with an expert local guide. Ice caves are seasonal and they change from year to year, which is why they belong to the winter trips and not the summer ones.

### How Many Photographers Join, and Do I Need Experience?

Between three and ten, depending on the trip. Arctic Foxes in Winter takes four, Winter in Iceland takes three, and the November week with Mads Peter Iversen takes ten. Every one of them is open to any experience level, and the itinerary bends around the weather rather than the other way round.

If you’re weighing a guided trip against going on your own in winter, Jeroen wrote [5 reasons how a photo tour can level up your photography](https://jvn.photo/5-reasons-how-a-photo-tour-can-help-level-up-your-photography/).

### What Happens If a Winter Workshop Is Full?

Join the waitlist. Groups this small fill and empty quickly, so places do come back. The waitlist asks which destinations and subjects you’re interested in, and you hear when something matching opens, usually before it reaches the site.

Winter kit is its own question, and [this blog on what gear you need to join a photo workshop](https://jvn.photo/outdoor-apparel-photography-gear-photo-workshop/) goes through it properly.
