## Itinerary

Please note that the itinerary is always subject to change depending on the weather conditions we are faced with.

### Day 1 (04/03/2027) – Arrival in Reykjavík

The workshop begins when we meet at the hotel on the evening of the 4th. To break the ice, we will go out for a welcome dinner so we can get to know each other a bit better.

### Day 2-7 (05-10/03/2027) – Exploring the South Coast of Iceland

We leave Reykjavík behind us and set out to explore the south coast of Iceland. In the first two days, we will explore the south coast up to the village of Vík. We will spend precious time photographing the stunning Reynisdrangar sea stacks, the magical waterfalls of Seljalandsfoss & Skógafoss, the steep cliffs of Dyrhólaey and more.

Later on we travel further east to the area around the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon. We will spend time photographing floating icebergs, finding that perfect glacial ice at the Diamond Beach and also exploring a crystal blue ice cave. Before heading back towards Vík, we will travel even further east where we attempt to photograph the famous Vestrahorn and Eystrahorn mountains. There’s plenty more to be photographed but we won’t spoil it all!

Our goal throughout the workshop is to optimally use the weather conditions. This means that during the return journey to Vík, we will visit locations we hadn’t visited before or revisit them if we get better conditions.

### Day 8 (11/03/2027) – Return to Reykjavík

On this final full day, we will make our way back to Reykjavík by driving along the Golden Circle if possible. In the evening, we will have a tasty goodbye dinner.

### Day 9 (12/03/2027) – Heading Home

On this final morning, it’s time to part ways. After a breakfast at the hotel, everyone heads back home.Sign up to this photo workshop[divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”500px”]

## What Are The Physical Requirements?

**It’s important to note that there will be some smaller hikes on this trip.** Some hikes, for example when we visit the ice cave, can be up to 4km (both ways) with elevation gains. The trails can be uneven and slippery. For this reason those with medical issues that prohibit hikes, might have a difficult time with this workshop.

## What Photography Experience Level Should I Have?

**We welcome all experience levels**, going from beginners to experienced photographers. A good mix of experience levels means we can also learn from each other.Sign up to this photo workshop

## Frequently Asked Questions

### Why Is The Group Only Three People?

Three photographers, one Land Cruiser, one leader. Everyone’s gear fits, nobody waits on a second vehicle, and we’re set up on a location before the light does anything. It also means Jeroen is standing next to you at every stop. On a group of ten he can’t be, and that’s the part you’re actually paying for.

### Will We See The Northern Lights?

Nobody can promise you an aurora. What early March gives us is long dark hours and eight nights of them, and we chase the forecast instead of sitting in the hotel hoping. The aurora answers to the sun, not to an itinerary. If you want to turn up knowing what you’re looking at, Jeroen’s written a full guide to [chasing & photographing the northern lights](https://jvn.photo/ultimate-guide-to-chasing-photographing-northern-southern-lights/).

### Is The Ice Cave Guaranteed?

The visit is booked and it’s in the price. Which cave, nobody knows until closer to the day. They get surveyed fresh every season and conditions decide which ones are safe to walk into, so the guides make the call. What is fixed: we go into one, on a day chosen for it.

### Do I Need A Drone, And Can I Fly It Here?

The gear list says to bring one, and it earns its place here. Before you do: Iceland has real rules about where you can take off, what you can overfly and which areas are shut, and they get enforced. Jeroen keeps [a guide to flying a drone in Iceland](https://jvn.photo/drone-flying-in-iceland-all-you-need-to-know-in-2026/) up to date. Read it before you pack, not after you land.

### Do I Book My Own Flights?

Yes. Flights to Iceland and the transfer between Keflavík and Reykjavík are yours to sort out, and so are lunches and most dinners once you’re here. The welcome dinner on the first evening, breakfast every morning and the goodbye dinner at the end are in the price. Come in a day early if you can. A delayed flight on day one costs you a sunrise nobody can give back.

### How Much Hiking Is There?

Enough to mention. The walk to the ice cave can be up to 4 kilometres both ways with some elevation gain, and in March the ground is uneven and often iced over. None of it is mountaineering. But if a hike like that is a problem for you, this trip turns into hard work instead of a holiday, so ask before you book.

### Will There Be Time To Edit?

We aim for at least one editing session, and if the weather shuts us down we’ll do more. Otherwise we’re outside. You can edit at home in your own chair. You can’t re-shoot Vestrahorn from your kitchen.

### How And When Do You Pay?

A deposit holds your place. The rest is due on **4 December 2026**, three months before the trip starts, and a payment link for it arrives well before then. Nothing is ever taken automatically.

The payments are handled by Iceland Travel, the organising travel agency, under [their terms and conditions](https://www.icelandtravel.is/terms-and-conditions-jvn-photo-workshops-and-private-tours/).
