## Frequently Asked Questions

Below are a few of the most commonly asked questions people have before considering to join a photo workshop.

### Which Summer Workshops Run, and When?

Summer in the north runs from late June to early September. In Iceland: puffins on Grímsey under the midnight sun in late June, then three drone-focused Highlands departures across July and August. In Greenland: Disko Bay and Ilulissat in early July and again in mid-August with Mads Peter Iversen, then eight days sailing Scoresbysund on the east coast from late August. The 2028 puffin week is already listed too, from 20 to 26 June.

### Why Is an Antarctica Expedition Listed Under Summer?

Because February and March are summer in the southern hemisphere. The Antarctica and South Georgia expedition runs from 27 February to 17 March 2028, late in the Antarctic season, when the light sits low and the evenings turn soft. It’s a different format from everything else here, a 20-day voyage with a bigger group, so it has its own page with the full itinerary.

### What Is It Like to Shoot Under the Midnight Sun?

Around the solstice the sun barely drops below the horizon in north Iceland, and on Grímsey, which sits on the Arctic Circle, it doesn’t set at all. The warm, low light that normally lasts half an hour runs for hours, so a lot of the best shooting happens late in the evening and after midnight. It’s worth planning your sleep around the light, not the other way round.

### How Many Photographers Join a Summer Trip?

It depends on the trip. The Highlands drone departures take three and the puffin weeks take four. West Greenland takes eight in July and ten in August, and the Scoresbysund expedition takes eleven aboard the Ocean Sherpa. Antarctica is the exception, limited to 100 passengers with eight guests per Zodiac.

### What Can I Photograph on a Summer Trip?

Puffins at close range on Grímsey in June. Icebergs, whales and the Ilulissat Icefjord around Disko Bay in July and August. The Icelandic Highlands from above, flying your own drone, through July and August. Scoresbysund’s fjords and ice on Greenland’s east coast at the end of August. If the trip you want is already full, join the waitlist and you’ll hear when a place opens.
